ARAUCO promotes integrated strategy to address the triple environmental crisis
Cambio GlobalFrom COP 28 in Dubai:
The history of our company has always been marked by a long-term vision, which is why for more than 4 years we have participated in the United Nations Climate Change Conference to report on our efforts and work in harmony with other countries and organizations that are developing and promoting strategies to address climate change.
From COP 28 in Dubai, we announced our new strategy we are implementing to address the triple environmental crisis generating major changes for people and the planet.
Climate action is now a determining factor that is advancing at an accelerated rate, and in the face of this reality we can only triple our efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, reverse the loss of biodiversity and reduce existing pollution.
From the forest industry we have the opportunity and obligation to continue contributing, as we are going up against a triple crisis: in addition to climate change, we must also face the loss of biodiversity and pollution. Our strategy is based on:
1.- Mitigating the effects of climate change through the wood we produce every year, which allows us to remove millions of tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, which is equivalent to taking 5,000 cars of the road every day.
2.- Reversing the loss of biodiversity, conserving close to 500 thousand hectares of native forest and protected areas in Latin America. This is equivalent to filling 600 thousand national stadiums with trees. As well as, protecting 1,220 endangered species of flora, fauna, and fungi, as part of a commitment to prevent the extinction of species in the places where we operate.
3.- Reducing pollution through textile fiber that comes from trees replacing polyester and therefore decontaminating the fashion industry. Furthermore, producing natural fibers used in the production of paper replacing the use of more polluting materials such as plastic.
